Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a very valuable asset in the practice of acupuncture due to it’s rejuvenating and reinforcing properties. Moxibustion involves the combustion of the herb mugwort either directly on the skin or on the needle handle. As the herb burns, it creates a warming sensation that penetrates deeply into the body stimulating the flow of ki and blood. It is removed or extinguished before it actually reaches the skin.

It is very useful in “activating” acupuncture points, tonifying Ki and blood and helping to eliminate cold in the body and local area by stimulating blood circulation through the dilation of capillary beds. As an adjunct to acupuncture, moxibustion can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions. Some examples include but are not limited to: the common cold, body aches and pain, fatigue, incontinence, and gynecological issues.
